We were introduced to Julian and Kate by their builder, Mike Whitfield Construction. This was more than 12 months before we started work on site and Julian and Kate were deep into the planning process for of their new Passivhaus on a plot they had bought. We designed and quoted them for an in-roof system on their slate covered roof. It took some time for the project to get going as there were drainage issues on the site which took time to resolve.

We eventually got on site in August 2024 to fit the 16 x 440 Watt Jinko All Black panels, using the popular GSE Roof integration system. The final work of fitting the inverter and batteries was done at the end of 2024 when the house was almost complete. We worked closely with the site electrician during the project, who included some back-up circuits that allow them to utilise the Emergency Power Supply system on the inverter. This allows them to have (limited) power when the grid goes down, to run some lights, the wifi and the freezer. The MyEnergi ecosystem is a range of smart, renewable energy-focused devices designed to help households generate, store, and use energy more efficiently, especially when they have solar panels. The key idea is using your own green energy first, before exporting it to the grid. It can be made of up a ‘mix-and-match’ selection of devices that all talk to each other, and can be controlled, and prioritised, by the excellent MyEnergi App. The devices include: the Libbi inverter, controller and battery, the Zappi EV charger, the Eddi immersion diverter and the Harvi energy monitor.
